Why American Purpose Must Thrive

Why American Purpose Must Thrive

We founded American Purpose in the midst of the pandemic as a fount of ideas. Now we need your help in securing our future.

American Purpose

We need your support. Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey Gedmin has been tapped for interim roles: as president/CEO of RFE/RL the second half of last year and now as CEO of the Middle East Broadcasting Networks through the end of this calendar year. We need funds for the next six months to help us over the hump.

Why us? In these polarized times, so much political energy—and money—continues to flow to highly partisan and sectarian causes, which divide rather than strengthen our liberal-democratic communities.

We need your contribution to cover the costs of our small, highly dedicated staff as we continue to search for long-term growth.

We founded American Purpose in the midst of the pandemic as a fount of ideas. We are proud of the richness of our content and of the intellectual diversity of our network. We have been rewarded by ever more young colleagues who have joined our ranks. We must increase this treasure.

In our articles, podcasts, videos, and the conversations we host, we are pursuing three goals:

• defend and promote liberal democracy in the United States

• understand and address the challenges to liberal democracy abroad

• engage responsibly in urgent political and cultural issues

No matter who wins in November, we see danger to America’s security and well-being. And beyond, when authoritarians around the world seek to diminish the Best of the West. The health of our democracies is at stake. We need to remind our fellow Americans that domestic strife has serious international consequences.

To sustain American Purpose, we are calling for your generous financial support. Our personnel costs are modest compared to those of other publications. None of them produces so much value at so little cost. We get more bang for the buck.

Our summer goal is to raise $75,000 by August 1. Can you help?
